Tuna Casserole

Make a white sauce of 2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons flour and 2 cups milk. To this sauce, add 1 can mushroom soup, 1 can tuna, and salt and pepper to taste. Combine the above mixture with 1/2 package noodles, cooked until tender. Bake in a buttered baking dish at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Homemade French Dressing

1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup salad oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
Dash of black pepper
1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 cup grated onion

Combine all ingredients in pint jar and cover with screw-on lid. Shake to mix.

Household Uses for Vinegar - #5

Add 1/2 cup of vinegar or so to warm bath water when bathing and get double benefits – softer skin and a cleaner bathtub with less work!

Hot Dog Pie

4 hot dogs, diced
1 cup uncooked, diced potatoes
1 cup raw carrots, sliced
1 large onion, sliced
1/4 cup ketchup
1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt

Biscuit Dough:
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cups milk


Cook vegetables in salted water until tender.  Thicken with 2 tablespoons flour mixed with 2 tablespoons water.  Add  hot dogs and set aside while making biscuit dough.  Sift dry ingredients of biscuit dough together.  Cut in shortening.  Add milk.  Roll out and cut into rounds.  Place on top of hot dog and vegetable mixture.  Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Yeast Cornbread

Dissolve 1 package yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.  Scald 2 cups milk and pour over 1/3 cup lard or shortening and 1/3 cup of sugar.  Cool and add 2 eggs, well beaten, 1 teaspoon salt, and the yeast mixture.  Mix well and add 4 cups flour and 1/2 cup cornmeal.  Pour mixture into two loaf pans and let rise until double.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Household Uses for Vinegar - #3

To clear clogged drains:  Use a funnel to pour in 1/2 cup baking soda followed by 1 cup vinegar. When the foaming subsides, flush with hot tap water. Wait five minutes, and then flush again with cold water.

Depression Meat Loaf

1/2 cup milk
2 slices bread
1/4 cup chopped onion
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground beef

In large bowl, pour milk over bread.  Let stand until milk is absorbed.  Add onion, salt and pepper.  Stir with fork until bread softens and is light and fluffy.  Mix in ground beef.  In a shallow baking dish, shape into a 7 x 3 x 2" loaf.  bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until no pink remains.  4 servings.
